question time!

What kind of ATLA RP do you do-- AU, OC, straight from canon, or a mixture? Why? Are there any types that you used to do in the past, but don't anymore? Is there anything you're not doing now but you want to do in the future?

*makes an attempt at discussion!*

Hello, community! I'd like to pose to you something I've been thinking about on and off for a few months.

I came a bit late into A:TLA, namely in the middle of season 2 though I've seen all of the series by now save for a few episodes from the first season. Zuko and Katara were easily my favorite characters, and now that I roleplay I've toyed with the idea of giving Katara a shot.

However, I'm sure my interpretation of the series was colored by fandom, and I've since tried to separate my own thoughts from that influence. I still have a bit of a dilemma in that while I'm confident in my interpretation of Katara, there's also some inconsistencies in her character that I'm not sure of how to address without adding stress and possibly wank to any cast I may play with.

So, my question for you all is how far do you think you can go into a interpretation while keeping true to the character and canon? What do you do when you disagree with how something was presented in canon? Can you make a valid argument against canon and make it believable? Also, were there any inconsistencies you noticed in the series or the characters?

Question

I just finished the last season and am riding this obsession wave. Does anyone know of any good ATLA rp games on lj or a forum like lj? Or would there be interest in starting one up from enough people? I've had some interest already but want to see exactly how many people would want to join a thread-based game on IJ.

If this isn't allowed, feel free to get rid of it, but I thought it'd give everyone something to talk about?  xD

I'm no stranger to playing as Azula, but I want some other perspectives on her character, so I figured coming to ask the other people who play as her would be the best to ask.

I've been toying around with the idea of a humorous 'Azula loses her memory'  fanfic for sometime, but how to characterize Azula always gets me stuck.  With it being a humor fic, I know I could get away with a little more OOC-ness than normal, but I'd still want it to be somewhat believable.

So what do you guys think?  If Azula lost all of her memory, what would she be like?

Just wanted to let everyone know that atla_au_role is currently (and desperately seeking) RPers to play an AU version of anyone. We currently only have Suki, Mai, Toph, Katara, Jun, and Azula. We have 'absent/missing' Haru and Aang. But that's another story. If you'd like to help us all out and take up a character you can!! There aren't that many rules in atla_au_role; there is no bending, and when you take up a character please read some of the overview's/posts that the RPer posted for that character that way we have a solid timeline. If you have any question (or advice, cuz it seems like everyone is leaving!) just leave a comment here. (I'm the mod for atla_au_role)

*still doesn't want this comm to die*

Soooo before I asked about your favorite characters to play... now I'm asking about a character that you WANT to play, but don't for some reason. Is it because you can't find their "voice"? Or you kind of can, but you're still afraid you won't do them justice? Is it just that you can't find a place to play them?

For me... eh. I'd love to be able to play Toph, Ozai, Ursa, or Mai, but I just don't think I'd be able to do any of them accurately. I don't really have specific reasons for any of them- I usually have issues with characterizing already-established characters, and there are really only a few from ANY fandoms- not just Avatar- that I'd feel confident enough to app anywhere. It's part of the reasons why I don't write fanfiction, either. DX

*does not want to let this comm die, oh no*

SO UH. Question for all you Avatar roleplayers out there- who do you play, and why? If you play more than one character, which one's your favorite? Which one's the easiest? The hardest? Etc., etc.

The only ATLA characters I've tried playing are Azula and Ty Lee, and while they're both very fun, I'd have to say Azula is my favorite- mostly because of the psychological aspect. I'm OBSESSED with psychology (sociopathy in particular, and since I see Azula as a sociopath... yay?), and it's fascinating to explore the different facets of her personality. As for Ty Lee, I've only been playing her in an actual *game* for a few weeks, but her UBER-FRIENDLINESS is just awesome to play out- she's much more relaxing than Azula, for obvious reasons. ;D

... Anyone else? :D?

Rewrite the Stars: A Panfandom Role Play

ONCE UPON A WRITER'S BLOCK...

It was clear and starry that faithful night that he wrote the heavens out of existence. It had been an accident, one that he was completely unaware of, and as he sat in front of a blank manuscript, it hit him, that dreaded fit of writer's block. He did everything that he could to ward it off, but the dastardly thing was there to stay and, after a fit of doing nearly everything but sitting on his head (while the idea did cross his mind), an idea finally did come to him. What if the stars disappeared from the sky, and what if those stars, placed mysteriously in the heavens, were each their own world? What would happen to those poor people with no place to call their own? His quill quickly went to work, and he began to write as if possessed; it was his best idea yet!

Funny how certain ideas just never seem to stay to one's self.

It came on fast like a summer's storm, and one by one the stars flickered out of existence from the night sky. The young writer's seemingly harmless story had become a reality, and many found their worlds disappearing before them in a flash. Before they had any recollection of what had happened to them, however, they found themselves in a world unfamiliar and strange with an empty head, not knowing where they had come from or how they arrived where they were in the first place. And where, do you ask, did these hapless heroes and villains alike pop up?

Welcome to Serendipity, a thriving renaissance-era town surrounded on all sides by an impenetrable wall. The stars and moon shine here just a bit too brightly, and the city itself is caught in a perpetual night. Ask anyone from town about the world outside, and you'll get the same answer all around; "What outside world?" Oh dear...

People they come together

People they fall apart

No one can stop us now

'Cause we are all made of stars

-- Moby, We Are All Made of Stars

Most of the big things are already set up. Right now, we're simply looking for enough players to get things started.

*Plug*

It's not a Livejournal comm, but I play Katara and some OCs on Hou Tian, an Avatar roleplay board that happens to be active and full of pretty nice members.

It's set six years after the events of Sozin's Comet, and involves two underground organizations - the Jade Shark, a group that hates benders and wants to eradicate all benders, and the Original People of the Flame, who want to return to the "old ways" of the Fire Nation during its high period of conquest.

There are still some canon characters that need players, and there're always people looking for an RP. Check it out?

(If this shouldn't go here, just remove it. I'm not sure how non-LJ roleplays and blatant plugs are accepted here)
